Who, Me? Naughty Cat Watercolor Painting
This portrait of a rather mischievous black cat amongst the house plants is painted in watercolor on Yupo paper. The Yupo responds to the paint in beautiful and mysterious ways creating a sort of collaboration between artist and materials.
Cadmus is painted in shades of black, blue and purple which contrast his distinctive yellow green eyes as he looks back at his owner, denying all knowledge of the destroyed leaves strewn around him.
The leaves in the background are painted in varied shades of green, purple, yellow and pink, creating a delightful little jungle.
The checkerboard pattern beneath the cat creates a sense of movement, deepened by the gentle swirl of watercolor wash still visible where the blue has been lifted from alternating squares.
