    Time Shows in Our Hands
My Grandmother is an amazing woman. She's 95, and will be 96 on Halloween, 2013. If she makes it that long. You see, after nearly 96 years on this crazy planet of ours, she's finally feeling a bit tired. She's over it. When I think of the amazing inventions, incredible changes, inspiring highs and tragic lows my Grandmother has been a witness to in just under a century, I shake my head in awe. She's really seen it all. I'm close to my Grandmother - as close as I can be when geographically I'm about 7,500 miles away. And our emotional bond, even though it's proved to be more difficult to maintain during her decline in the past 4 years, is very special to me. I don't want her to "go", but I can understand her desire to do so. She's been around the world, seen just about every place there is to see, met people from every corner of the universe, and of course has touched the lives of countless numbers of people, myself included. She is choosing to move on from this world, and I don't blame her for wanting to do so. I captured this image last June (2012) when I was visiting her. She slept during most of our visit. In fact, I think that's probably how she'll go - she'll just fall asleep, and not wake up. She seemed so rested and peaceful. I held her hand while she was sleeping and noticed the huge difference time has had on her hands, compared to mine. My Grandmother has always been so very supportive of me and my photography. She used to show off my photographs (printed into greeting cards) when friends and family came around for a visit. I think she would approve of this image of our hands resting together. This one's for you, Irma Aandahl. You've been a huge inspiration to me for all of my life. I will miss you. A lot. Captured with a Nikon D90 in New Jersey, USA. Converted to black and white in Photoshop CS5. Featured in the "Everyday Women" Group, October 21, 2013 © jdub photography 2010
