The Dream Forest

This mixed media piece has an interesting story as I had some glitter craft glue that I wanted to use in an abstract painting to see how it worked. I knew the glitter would add a grainy effect that might be quite attractive and so, after a white underpainting, I used several different colours of glitter, all applied over the canvas with a palette knife. On top that I then added broad sweeps of pink going one way on the canvas and then applied thick swathes of turquoise across the bottom third. It was still wet but I took a photograph as I was really pleased with the piece and how it looked. Imagine my shock when I went back after 24 hours to see how the piece was drying to find that the painting looked entirely different! The glitter glue was in the process of completely absorbing the acrylic paint and the surface was now blotchy but shiny and shimmering and not at all what I had intended. Ah the joys of experimenting. Well the piece is still drying (and still evolving) as I write this, and who knows what the final piece will look like? I wanted to create something from the original photograph I took of the wet painting as that is the look I had planned. I used a digital acrylic programme just to tidy things up and create something big enough to be able to sell as prints - normally I scan my paintings. I still like this original look, it reminds me of a woodland so I called it The Dream Forest.
