Not Crossing the Rubicon - Indecision
Not symbol over "Rubicon" with the words "not crossing". To cross the Rubicon means to commit to an action or make a final decision. An example would be for when a person quits smoking cigarettes' he might say: "As to smoking, I have crossed the Rubicon" -- meaning he is committed to his decision.
The saying "cross the Rubicon" comes from Julius Caesar when he and his troops crossed the Rubicon River in 49 b.c. to begin a war against Pompey and the Roman Senate. As, he was ordered to stay out of Rome until his fate was decided by the senate.
Conversely, to "Not Cross the Rubicon" means to not make up ones mind on an issue. Be it from lack of all the available information or simple vacillation, a decision of finality has not been reached.
