"Mom, Trees Have Feelings!"
Once upon a time, there was a tree, a lonely tree that lived in a small country town on a country road near a big Victorian home. The little lady living in the house thought, why buy a tree when I can cut my own. As she began to cut away at the base of the perky spruce pine, she heard a sound; it was the sound of a small, wispy cry. The little lady ignored the cries as she was too excited to get that tree inside and show it off to her little boy, who thought Christmas was for babies. Cutting and crying, cutting and crying, was all that was heard. Finally, the sounds stopped, and all that was heard was the thump of the tree hitting the ground. The little lady grabbed the tree trunk and dragged it through the backyard, up the back porch, into the back door, and into the house. Sitting next to the fireplace, the big pot of water was ready to be soaked up by the thirsty spruce. Extremely tired and warn out from all that sawing, the little lady lifted the tree over her shoulder and dropped it into the pot of water. The fireplace was burning bright, and the tree began to scream; the little lady jumped so high her boots flew off, and she landed right on her butt. The spruce shook and shivered as its giant branches began to part, and eyes started to appear, shifting from side to side as if scared and sad. Water began dripping from all branches from top to bottom as the tree cried and cried. The little lady crawled over to the tree and asked what have I brought into my house. She tried soaking up the water with the rug nearby and said aloud, "TREE'S DON'T CRY! Her son ran into the room to see all the commotion and said, "Mom, trees are living things; they have feelings, too."
