View Larger on Chockstone Photography Little River Falls resides in the lonely back country locality of Wulgulmerang, that isn't too far from Buchan in Victoria's Gippsland region. A tributary of the mighty Snowy River it isn't so little at all, and enters Victoria’s deepest gorge with considerable force. At 600m the gorge, carved out of volcanic rock over millions of years, is a fantastic sight, well worth the long drive. Having camped the night, our boy and I had the pleasure of photographing the falls at dawn, when the light was soft and warm. This perspective required climbing gear to secure both photographer and tripod. Peering over the cliff edge, with the rocks damp from water spray, it was comforting to be harnessed up. The slightest bump would have sent a camera spinning to the depths below, so we tied them off as well. Shooting a variety of compositions at different shutter speeds and focal points allowed for a tack sharp image front to back. The constant moisture in the air coated the scene making the early morning colours pop. What a great experience to have shared, and an image I’m excited to have created.
