Hope For Ukraine - Fundraiser for Families in Ukraine

Hello from Canada! Thank you for your support! The profits from this painting go to helping displaced families in the beautiful Trans-Carpathian region of Ukraine. My painting is based on the Ukrainian flag, with the golden field of wheat and the vast blue sky above. This is what I imagined my great grandmother gazed at as she said goodbye to her family before immigrating to Canada as a child servant. Her family saved everything to send her and her siblings to Canada where it was safer; where there was an abundance of food, where they could be free of conflict and violence. Her father was a peasant farmer in the poorest region of Europe at the time. Anything they produced was paid to the imposed feudal system. They survived unimaginable conflict and violence and saved everything to send their children to Canada where they would be safe. My grandmother was hired by a Canadian family to work as a servant. She saved her money, and eventually bought a home of her own in British Columbia. I grew up hearing the stories and documenting their lives. The kids survived by fleeing to Canada, but those who stayed, did not. I still have distant cousins in Ukraine and my heart is with them.
