Gold Blue and Yellow Hammer Smash Abstract Painting
I love using the hammer smash painting technique. It involves some preparation beforehand, not least me putting on overalls and gloves and ensuring the space in my studio is covered ready in case of paint splashes. With this piece, I chose to start with a dark gold background, allowing some of the grain of the canvas to creep through. The actual technique involves creating individual puddles of paint initially building up layers of colour. For the majority of the puddles that I created here, I used layers of white, blue and yellow with a hint of red. I then also created a small number of puddles just largely featuring white and yellow for contrast. The actual impact of the hammer on the paint (more technical than it sounds but great fun) allows the paint to splatter across the canvas, the colours mingling as a result of the blow. In this painting, this has allowed shades of pink and purple to also emerge in this painting, making an eye-catching and stunning piece of art for your wall.
