    Gibson Steps.
Gibson Steps. It took until 1869 before the Gibson Steps reached their full potential in both name and use. A local indigenous tribe the Kirrae Whurrong are believed to have carved the original steps hundreds of years ago but it took until 1869 before the Gibson Steps reached their full potential in both name and use. Gibson Steps takes its name from early pioneer Hugh Gibson who was a regular user of the carved steps following construction of his Glenample Homestead. It was here at Glenample Homestead that the sole survivors from the Loch Ard disaster Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael were bought to recover following their ordeal. It was Tom Pearce who set out in search of assistance and he and Eva would ultimately find refuge at the Gibson homestead. Gibson shared the steps with fishermen and other maritime workers who constantly required access to the beach. Although only several minutes from the area of where the Twelve Apostles are located Port Campbell National Park Gibson Steps are the first of many sightseeing points on the famous Great Ocean Road. Gibson Steps. Port Campbell National Park. Victoria, Australia.
