This is a family estate for eleven generations of the Effinger Family. The castle remained the property of the Effingers from the year 1483, when Kaspar Effinger von Brugg acquired it till 1912, when Julie, the last descendant of the Effinger family died childless. In her will, she gave the Castle and Domain Wildegg to the Swiss Confederation. Most of the property including the castle, the forest, the farm, the vegetable and pleasure gardens has remained unchanged. Today, they represent a cultural landscape of national importance.
