Toninho
WHY DO WE LET THAT ANY YEARS WORLDWIDE OVER 1 MILLION quotTONINHOSquot? - * In the small village of Vilarandelo, in the north of Portugal, a special tradition was cultivated again in 2015: the rearing of the quotAntonius pigquot named after the saint of the same name, who is also dedicated to a chapel in Vilarandelo. It is customary to let a piglet, called quotToninhoquot, run around the village. Everyone who likes gives the animal food to make it big and fat. The good life, of course, should only be for Christmas, Toninho would have been the main prize of a lottery and should have filled the lucky winner the pantry. But Toninho had had pigs: the piglet with the beautiful white stripe on the face, so joyfully it had jumped through the streets, so funny it had wiggled with the ring tail. And when it got bigger, the children even let it ride on his back. Toninho! The people in the village smile when they talk about him. They speak of quotaffectionquot and that it is quotlike a manquot. Toninho, then, has sneaked so deep into the heart that no one could bring the heart to kill the beast. And so it stood firm: tradition, tradition: Toninho is not eaten. Toninho is to remain alive.
