View Larger on Chockstone Photography Wollongong resides on the New South Wales coast south of Sydney. It is the only place in the east of Australia to have two lighthouses right near each other. I chose to focus my photographic efforts on the historic old breakwater lighthouse, feeling it had more character, and also overlooked the very popular harbour area. The charming precinct tends to attract large numbers of families out for a bite to eat and somewhere to let their children use up some energy. Built in 1871 the lighthouse, at 12 metres high, is made of wrought iron and concrete. The ocean swells slam against the breakwater, threatening to douse the lighthouse even in relatively gentle weather. I'd love to see what the scene looks like under a real storm. I imagine it would be quite exciting to witness.
