    Rosa foetida bicolor (Austrian Copper), Species Rose (prior to 1590). Showy, single orange flowers with yellow reverse color, tall shrub in spring. Sometimes produces all yellow flowers. Wild. This flower occasionally reverts to the yellow color of the parent. Tracing its origins as far back as 1590, Austrian copper briar is a bright-orange-flowered sport (genetic mutation) of and strong fragrance, which some gardeners are not fond of, is common to both. Austrian copper briar is noted for its rare, true copper-orange blooms and has a more pleasant scent than its parent. Because it's a sport, a few branches may revert back to its yellow-flowered parent, and both yellow and copper flowers will bloom on the heirloom plant. It attracts birds. Discovered by Jules Gravereaux (France, before 1904). Introduced by Unknown in before 1590 as 'R. foetida bicolor'. Described in Gerald's Herbal, 1597. Cherry Creek, White Pine County, Nevada
