View Larger on Chockstone Photography At the back of Lorne, where the hills rise steeply, is the scenic spot known as Teddys Lookout. It grants the visitor sweeping, coastal views of the surf breaking into the mouth of the Saint George River as it passes the famously winding Great Ocean Road. At 113 metres above sea level you can see quite the distance across the Southern Ocean towards Bass Strait. Apparently it was named by the first colonial that came across the area when he was chasing some stray cattle. In today's world, access could not be easier. Just drive up George Street up into the hills until you reach the carpark. Alternatively you can walk the 2.4km up the hill on a maintained trail. In terms of access, it should be mentioned that driving into Lorne, along the coast, during peak times in the morning can be very slow, so plan accordingly. This image was captured using a very wide lens and a long exposure in the last of the light as sunset transitioned into twilight. A long stream of cars wound their way long the Great Ocean Road just when I wanted, leaving light trails that really highlight the curves in the road, which, in my opinion, sit nicely against the curves in the river.
