Streamline Era- Manorbier Castle
Another of my train paintings, though this one is in a slightly different style-Manorbier Castle, one of the GWR's two attempts at streamlining is captured here at speed. The streamlining of these particular locos has always interested me-seen from some angles it's highly effective (visually, I don't make any comment about it's aerodynamic effectiveness) and from others it's downright ugly. Perhaps this is no surprise given the old story that the design was done in a fit oif pique on the part of C.B. Collett, using a souvenir paperweight and some plasticine from the Station bookstall at Swindon.
