~ Standing Guard ~
Images taken at Yarramalong Cemetery ~ on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. I recently ventured through this graveyard-with-a-view, then noted on RB that there was a challenge for cemetries in Australiana Challenges ~ otherwise I probably wouldn't have posted it. :) I really loved the gum trees standing guard. :) Some of the graves, I noted, dated back to the 1870s... Yarramalong Cemetery is the final resting place of local historian Edward Stinson, who wrote several books on the history of Wyong Shire and our pioneers. I say 'our' pioneers because I am a 5th generation 'Wyongite' ~ I think I made that word up. ;) ~ coming from a long line of Smiths, on my mother's side... one of whom gambled away what is now known as Alison Homestead - an historical museum at Wyong. I had to chuckle to myself when I realised how much barbed-wire surrounded the place. I (playfully) hoped I didn't find any need to escape in a hurry! ;) Actually, with the valley view and the mountain of trees and the laughing kookaburra, the barbed-wire fences seemed to cry out with pride, 'This is Australia...' and really added to the 'charm' of the place - if one could call a graveyard charming. :)
