Slanggras
'n Afrikaanse vers op 'n foto van die grassade van die pronkgras (Setaceum 'Rubrum' - Purple African Fountain Grass) in 'n tuin op Jansenville in die Oos-Kaap van Suid-Afrika. Pennisetum setaceum or Fountain Grass, a native of Northern Africa, is a perennial grass that is quite showy whether planted in the ground or in pots. It needs full sun and warm temperatures with a well-drained soil. It has numerous plume like seed heads that are mauve in colour and grow between 10 and 25 centimetres long. Drought resistant but frost tender. Common names: African fountain grass, Tender fountain grass, Fountain grass, Purple fountain grass Pennisetum setaceum is classified as a Category-1 invader in South Africa but excludes the sterile cultivar 'Rubrum'. 'Cupreum' has reddish stems and leaves, and copper-colored plumes. 'Rubrum' and 'Purpureum' are larger with dark purple leaves and burgundy-red, nodding plumes. 'Eaton Canyon' is a miniature, with burgundy-red foliage and plumes. These cultivars generally do not set seed, and therefore are good choices for tropical and subtropical climates where the species could become invasive. Kamera CanonEOS 500D
