Samhain (Halloween) Creepy Scene
Witches, ghouls, goblins, spells, and sorcery are all a fun part of the holiday known as Halloween. Where do these fun traditions come from? Obviously, there have been many influences over the centuries, but Halloween can trace it's roots back to the pre-Christian Celts of Scotland and Ireland!
For the ancient Celts, Halloween was called "Samhain" (pronounced "sow-in"), and it marked the end of the "light" half of the year (summer), and the start of the "dark" half of the year (winter). It was also the night of the year when the veil between the living and the dead was at it's thinnest. These ancient Celts carved turnips (we now carve pumpkins) and placed them in their windows to scare away any unwanted creepy spirits!
This artwork is meant to represent the roots of Halloween. Paying homage to the Celts with the Celtic spiral, and also incorporating other creepy elements traditional to Halloween.
