Pixie Dust
Our granddaughter, Mia, loves blowing the seeds of the Dandelion into the air and calls it pixie dust! This special moment was taken at Bloemfontein in the Free State of South Africa.
Taraxacum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. Two species, Taraxacum officinale and Taraxacum erythrospermum, are found as weeds worldwide. Both species are edible in their entirety. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), is known in Afrikaans as 'perdeblom' (horse flower) or 'molslaai' (mole salad).
While many people think of the Dandelion, Blow Ball or Lion's Tooth as a pesky weed, herbalists consider it a valuable herb that can be used as a food and medicine.
