View Larger on Chockstone Photography Pigeon House Mountain (Didthul) resides in the spectacular Morton National Park along the south coast of New South Wales. The walking track is only 5km return, but quite steep and involves climbing some metal ladders onto a potentially very exposed clifftop. The summit offers some amazing views, but avoiding rainy and windy days will likely be the safer choice. During our visit we found the trail to be reasonably well defined, though muddy in sections and a little overgrown here and there. Expect to be sharing the experience with a few other parties as this hike is popular, though not to the point of becoming crowded. Dawn found us alone atop the peak, enjoying the gentle advance of the sunrise as it slowly painted the rugged crests and valleys of the Budawang Wilderness with gold. You will find Pigeon House Mountain about 30 minutes from the town of Milton (on unsealed roads), which itself is about three hours south of Sydney. Camping within the park is possible, but I believe bookings are required and presumably a fee as well. The walk takes about 4 hours to return. The way up is obviously going to be the hard part. There is something of a plateau in the middle which helps to gain distance before the final push via ladders where there is a viewing platform with great views towards Byangee Walls, the Castle and Mt Talaterang.
