Phoenix Rising
Life returning to the fire affected areas of the Yarra Valley after the awful events of February 7 2009. Marysville, August 23 2009 I was amazed at how badly damaged the tree ferns were, but still, most were showing signs of regrowth. Truly remarkable. I decided this would suit a monochrome approach - as the unmistakeable delicate fern regrowth and the contrasting charred form of the burnt stems and trunk - form striking graphic elements. The stormy sky is also more imposing in monochrome and a reference to the rain that has been falling during winter, allowing for this amazing regrowth.
