Packing In
While on a recent trip to the USA I was honoured to meet a range of working cowboys. It seems that the life of the ‘old time’ cowboy where they drove the herd for hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles to get them to market is dying. But these men are determined that their culture lives on, perhaps not in the same way, but so that the ‘Iconic Cowboy’ who has been a part of American culture for hundreds of years continues to be a part of their countries future. These men are an exceptional breed, they work hard and party hard, but in all that continued to be most respectful towards me and other women. They love their horses and the work they do despite the fact that it is often back breaking labour This cowboy was checking the route that he would be taking in several weeks time as he took packing trips up into the mountains in the Rocky Mountain National Forest,, Colorado. The path was only wide enough in places for a person to walk single file but these horses managed to navigate it without any worries.
