View Larger on Chockstone Photography Murphy's Haystacks are an unusual granite rock formation that rises up out of a farmer's paddock between Streaky Bay and Port Kenny on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia. Their strange shapes may have been caused by erosion and weathering over some 1500 million years. The curious named has been attributed to traveller observing them from a passing mail coach and exclaiming about the volume of hay that had been harrowed. Getting there from Adelaide is a big drive, but if you follow the coast there are some great places to explore along the way. Being only about 40kms from Streak Bay, it makes a fun place to visit if you are in the area. The location includes a picnic spot and a nice little walk that takes you through some other rocks and back again. Access is via the Flinders Highway.
