View Larger on Chockstone Photography Wilsons Promontory (or “The Prom” is it is known) resides on the southernmost point of mainland Australia. Mt Oberon looms over the exceedingly popular Tidal River camping ground and is something of a "must do" for all visitors looking for the well-trodden Wilsons experience. The hike is easy enough and less than an hour one way, however don't underestimate the wind and cliff top updraft even on an otherwise calm day. It's in a league of its own, making the capturing of this image an exercise in frustration. It's tack sharp (I can even see some people on the beach), but only because I found the one spot tucked behind a boulder from which to shoot and reshoot over and over until a magic lull lasting half a second coincided with my shutter release. I think I may have alarmed a nearby young couple attempting to have a romantic moment with my cursing of the maelstrom, but it’s not often that the light looks this good.
