Lifting Deep Time
A California Condor rises silently on a powerful thermal above the Grand Canyon, and in response one immense section of the artwork’s geological surface lifts into the air. The canyon’s ancient strata curve upward beneath the bird, their layered edges echoing its broad wings and separated primary feathers while revealing a deep shadowed void, atmospheric distance, and a narrow trace of the Colorado River below. “Lifting Deep Time” explores the idea that perspective can transform the weight of history. The condor’s effortless ascent turns immovable rock into part of the same rising movement, transforming geological layers accumulated across countless eras into a sculptural expression of survival, restoration, and the possibility of rising again. Part of The Wild Rift collection, this contemporary nature artwork transforms freedom into a physical metaphor for resilience, return, and renewed perspective. The piece invites the viewer to see the past not only as something heavy beneath us, but as a source of strength that can become part of our ascent.
