Kids Playing Snooker
The ingenuity and the feeling of belonging and self pride,I saw in this slum in Lagos was amazing to me and which puts a smile on my face whenever I look at this picture.
The picture was made in 2003 in a slum in Makoko,Lagos.
Around that time, rough fabrication of billiard or snooker tables were made by youths in many neighborhoods for this game, and bettings were made.
Young people sneak out from their parents or when sent on errand, would stop by to watch or play a round of snooker. (but you dare not be caught, but kids will be kids)
Today the excitement of this game has died down and you no longer see any of this "tables" around.
It was a fad for them but the excitement has waned.
Picture was exhibited at 50th Venice biennale, Italy and
5th Gwangju Biennale, South Korea.
