View Larger on Chockstone Photography The Grand Canyon Track in the Blue Mountains is rated a hard three and a half hours for 6.3km. That said it is really not too difficult. Maybe ascending out of the valley is a little steep and tiring, but the myriad of waterfalls and fern filled forest paths more than make up for it. Bring a raincoat even if it is not raining as you will be required to walk under a few of the falls. Or if it is summer, just get wet and enjoy it! Access to the walk starts from the Grand Canyon carpark near Blackheath. If you want to go clockwise, you then walk to Evans Lookout carpark (killer views), quickly descend into the deep valley, and take in all the gorge has to offer before looping back to the top and arriving where you started. The trek is crazy popular (like middle of town on a busy day popular) and given a lot of it requires walking single file, expect to be waiting in queues now and then. Alternatively get up early to beat the crowds. The question as to whether this walk, which is arguably one of the best in New South Wales, is family friendly is an interesting one. On the one hand plenty of kids manage it judging by the sheer volume of them on the track. I had even seen some parents carrying infants. However, in my opinion it would be a really long day for most young children to complete the entire loop if they are not experienced walkers. Consider bringing snacks, water, raincoats and the like. That said, our boy (age 12 at the time) was with when this image was captured. We spent most of the day photographing the gorge and he remained in great spirits the whole time, treating it like a jungle photography adventure. It was a very rewarding experience for the both of us.
