Gold Hill - linocut by Francesca Whetnall
Gold Hill is the 3rd in my series of Dorset landscape linocuts. This print shows the beautiful cobbled street of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The street was famously used as the backdrop for a 1973 advert for Hovis bread. The ad, which has been voted Britain's favourite advertisement of all time was directed by Ridley Scott, and includes the distinctive music of Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9. The original linocut is a reduction or 'suicide' print, with 7 steps used to create the final image. The tradition of linocut is a relief printing method in which pieces of lino are cut away using special carving tools to create a design. The lino block is then inked up using a roller, and printed onto paper either by hand or using a traditional printing press. 11th June 2016 - Featured in Found - Redbubble Front page. 5000+ views ~ 12 June 2016
