Moss-covered trunks and ancient-looking forest along the Antarctic Beech Track in Barrington Tops National Park. This is a lovely short 2.5 km loop walk that I can recommend for visitors exploring the Barrington Tops, particularly those travelling through Gloucester. It is a great way to experience the cool, temperate rainforest and step into a landscape that feels like a glimpse into the ancient Gondwanan forests.
The track winds through lush beech and eucalypt woodland, with Antarctic Beech trees towering above a forest floor carpeted in vibrant moss. Tree ferns, cool rainforest and mossy cascades add to the atmosphere, making this a particularly beautiful walk when the forest is damp and misty.
On this trip I was particularly taken with this mossy tree. Setting up my big medium format camera so low to the ground it was almost touching, I used a focus stack to ensure the image is sharp right throughout.
