Children's Python
I shot this Children's Python - Antaresia childreni at a school music camp I did a few weeks back in Mt Evelyn called Oasis. Peter the owner was telling me that these snakes tended to bite more people than any other in the wild. Curiously the reason for this is that its name 'children's python' and reputation as a good domestic reptile means a lot of people put their guard down and try and touch them in the wild where not surprisingly the snake responds by attacking its aggressor. The name children's did not come about as a result of its presumed docile kid friendly disposition but was named by its discoverer Gray in honour of his mentor, John George Children, who was a curator of the zoological collection at the British Museum at the time.
