Volcano Eruption?
Big Southern Butte Panorama, a prominent landmark and dormant volcano, located in Craters of the Moon National Park. On a clear day, during sunrise, this dormant volcano gets to relive its glory days and dream of the future, if just for a few seconds, thanks to the illusion provided by the sun...please view large to enjoy the warmly lit foreground of sage and lava flow termination (the jagged line above the sage and below the butte). The sunrise also provides wonderful motivation for the singing squirrel. Companion Image: Ode to My Pine Cone Warning: One must use the proper technique/equipment when photographing the sun, especially when using a large lens...failure to take the proper precautions can damage your eye and equipment. My camera, 300mm lens, tripod, manual focus, aperture (safety shift on), and shutter release cable were positioned prior to sunrise. I knew exactly how to frame the image from watching the sunrise the day prior. As the sun rose, I clicked away using the shutter release cable, never looking into the camera. As soon as the sun became too intense, I redirected the lens away from the sun to avoid camera damage. Nevertheless, there's no guarantee a camera will not be damage using this technique...all activities have risks. Craters of the Moon National Park Canon DSLR camera, Canon 300mm IS L Lens, Tripod with Ballhead Mount. For discussion of shutter speed, f-stop, available light, and my technique, please visit my profile page…thank you :-)
