Rudolf Rocker
Rudolf Rocker (1873 - 1958) was a German anarchist activist. He was born in Mainz to an artisan family, was orphaned and then apprenticed to a bookbinder. His greatest inspiration came from the Jewish socialists he met amongst the workers he knew. Although he was a Catholic, he taught himself yiddish and became a brilliant writer and an inspiration orator. In London he lived in the East End amongst the poor Jewish immigrants he campaigned for. His lifelong love was Milly Witkop who was also a leading anarchist. Their son Fermin became a painter and documented London's streets and workplaces.
