View Larger on Chockstone Photography Built in the early 20th century Howitt Hut is one of the oldest historic mountain cattleman’s huts in the Alpine National Park. It sits beside the Caledonia River about 80km north of Licola. In winter it becomes something of a challenge to access with the road covered in snow and some parts pretty rough. A four wheel drive is definitely required. From nearby you can commence the hike up Mt Howitt and achieve the summit within a few hours, making the hut a great spot to base camp or meet up with friends.
