Walking Onions (Allium cepa var. proliferum)
Aunt Kate called these "walking onions" because of the way they propagate. Clusters of small white flowers transform into clusters of tiny purple onion bulbs. Soon they begin to grow, and their weight bends the stalk. When the bulbs touch ground, they each take root and a new plant is started. If you don't keep a careful eye on them, they'll soon overrun the whole garden. And yes, they are a nice addition to the cooking pot, especially if all you want is a small onlon now and then.
