Orroral Homestead, Namadgi National Park, ACT, Australia
Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack sharp 96 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography Built in the 1860's for Archibald and Mary McKeahnie, Orroral Homestead sits in a lovely open valley surrounded by hills roughly north of Kosciuszko and south of Canberra. It has three rooms and a chimney at each end, plus a full length verandah at the front. A nearby stockyard and woolshed added during the 1930's, as well as the remains other original buildings (kitchen and staff quarters) offer a testament to the lives that once played out here. Access is easy, with the grounds being only a short walk from Orroral Road. There are also several other huts to visit in the area making the trip well worth it. Arriving in the dark, well ahead of the dawn I had the pleasure of watching the scene come to life as golden morning light filled the valley.
