Night Skies over Balingup
For many years I had pictured capturing the Milky Way over the red leaves of this tree in Balingup Tree Park, Balingup, Western Australia. The difficulty comes with this time of year being our wet season and there being quite significant amounts of cloud and fog. There is a window of about 3-4 days to get this shot with zero moon and the tree still having enough leaves for the shot.
I made the drive from Busselton to Balingup in the middle of the night through really heavy fog, hoping that I could get a clearing in the fog to get my shot... the first few years of attempting this shot failed due to fog and one year due to flooding.
Photographed on the Canon EOS 5Dmk3 with the 8-15mm F4 fisheye lens.
ISO6400, f4, 53 seconds. The tree was lit very briefly with my head torch.
