For further description and technical info, please scroll down. * *Description Description I had a long hike through the frozen polders and parklands from Breukelen, yesterday. Goodness, it was sooo cold and grumpy clouded. Some of the shots I made make up for the exercise, though. This little Common Firecrest * (Regulus ignicapillus - Wikipedia) definitely is my golden shot of the day! Second smallest bird of Europe, only 9 to 10cm - this little jewel bird with it's olive back and orange crest, has a very hard time in winter, and needs to continuously search for food. It usually is very busy, hiding in low bushes and grasses while it looks for insect, and since it's so small, one hardly can see it, let alone photograph it... I think I stood there about an hour, trying to get it clearly visible and well focussed... making several attempts. Still, my 300mm zoom was not sufficient to get it close enough - this pic is heavily cropped. So it was only at home that I could check the result... And to my own surprise... I got it !! Woohoo!
