Jincumbilly Railway Station, Bombala, New South Wales, Australia
Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is image is suitable for enormous prints. View Larger on Chockstone Photography Jincumbilly railway station, or what is left of it, was one of those scenes I had no idea existed until I happened to be driving towards Kosciusko one day saw it standing there, all alone on the big open prairie like it was a prop from a cowboy movie. Residing on the now-defunct Bombala line in the Monaro region of New South Wales, the building sits on private property but is clearly visible from the roadside. By pure chance the morning I was there dark moody clouds roamed across the skies, moving relatively quickly such that sunlight occasionally struck the little railway station before vanishing again. With a bit of patience I was able to capture a moment when the background was draped in gloom whilst the foreground was brightly lit. I ended up going to Thredbo and putting effort and expense into hike all the way up to Kosciusko, but actually preferred this simple image of Jincumbilly station more than anything I managed to capture during that trip to the mountains. Sometimes life surprises you with seemingly random moments that end up proving to be quite rewarding.
