There's no doubt that Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous artists in the world but what about his work do we find so captivating?
For me there's something in his paintings that makes me feel as if I am seeing through Vincent's eyes and feeling as he feels.
I rarely encounter art with the power to transport me vividly into a moment of someone else's life yet, staring at Vincent's rich, spiraling paintings of the night sky brings me the same wonderment as gazing up at the stars at night.
While gazing at "Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear" I do not observe Vincent as myself but rather as his own reflection in a mirror hung in his room in a silent, personally intimate moment.
I believe the thing that makes Van Gogh's art so memorable is that he invites us to know him by teaching us how to see like him.
He once said " I want to touch people with my art. I want them to say "he feels deeply. He feels tenderly." "
If only Van Gogh could see the crowds touched by his art today.
