Snow Badger
Seen speeding along the East Coast Mainline during the deepest winter is InterCity liveried Class 89, 89001. 89001 was the sole member of its class, a prototype for the East Coast Mainline's first intercity electric locomotive following the completion of electrification to Leeds and Edinburgh. Ultimately, the Class 89, built by Brush, was sidelined in favour of the Class 91, built by BREL. As such, only one member of the class was built and worked a fragmented career on the line before it was finally withdrawn in 2001. Today, it lives out the life of a museum piece under the auspices of the AC Locomotive Group, whose team of volunteers are currently attempting to get the locomotive back into working order. This piece was fun to do, a nice little bit of winter landscapes and a murky sky to give the true impression of the frozen tundra. Scene depicted on the Yorkshire levels, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
