Cosmic Choreography The Biophilic Cosmos (Best Viewed Large/Click on Image) ===== How close do we come to not existing? Science tells us the conditions which allow life in the Universe can only occur when certain fundamental constants lie within a very narrow range. If any of these physical fundamental constants differed only slightly, the development of matter, galaxies, stars, planets, and/or life ~ including us! ~ could not have taken place. HOW slightly??? See below... but prepare to be astounded! ====== Featured in IMAGE WRITING Featured in ART UNIVERSE Featured in INSPIRED ART Featured in GAIA Featured in WRITE/ EXPRESS YOURSELF Featured in DARK GIFTS Featured in ARTISTS with DISABILITES Featured/ IN ONE MIND'S EYE Featured in EVERYDAY WOMEN 1,547 views/ 14 faves It's been established that the rate of expansion following the Big Bang "had to" happen at a set rate. Had it gone too quickly, matter would have never formed at all. Had it gone too slowly, matter may have formed but the force of gravity would have caused it to collapse. How slight would the difference have to be? The range is so narrow it boggles the mind! Had it been one in one-quintillionth off, nothing in our Cosmos would exist. How much is a quintillion? It's a one with 18 zeroes... 1,000000000000000000 It's very nearly the number you would get if you counted every grain of sand on every beach in the world. So how much sand would you have to disturb to skew the equation? ONE GRAIN! Put another way, remove one Zero - only one - and the Universe could not have formed! We exist in a Biophilic Cosmos: one precision-tuned to foster life. This very narrow range applies to other factors too. If, for example, the strong nuclear force were 2% stronger than it is, hydrogen would fuse so easily that all of the universe's hydrogen would have been consumed in the first few minutes following the Big Bang and again - life could not exist. Although the true extent of the fine-tuning in the universe is still a matter of dispute, philosophers, theologians, creationists, intelligent design proponents (and some mainstream physicists) have come to the conclusion that such a finely-tuned machine must have had a Master Engineer. Other scientists reject a Transcendent Creator (God, if you will) and tell us ours is only one of trillions in a great Infinity of Universes. While it's not too likely that the "only" Universe would form in such a bio-friendly way, it becomes more plausible statistically if countless separate Universes formed, each with different outcomes and realities. There is also the idea that the Cosmos is itself a Living Entity ~ self-creating, self-sustaining, fueled not by forces, particles, or physical mechanics only, but by Transcendent Universal Conciousness. And we, as part of it, are not merely actors on the Cosmic stage as though looking from the outside in... but recepters/ co-creators of the Universal Consciousness as well. Either way, I say "Celebrate the small stuff!" The small stuff seems to be the Big Stuff in this topsy-turvy place!
