PRTL Pruttle
The Dutch Army was the second largest user of the West German Flakpanzer Gepard. 95 vehicles were received as part of a contract and they were locally modified. The German version combined a search radar to the S band type, 15 km range and a tracking radar of Ku band, same range plus a laser rangefinder.
The Dutch version copbined search radar X band, same range with a tracking radar: X/Ka band, 13 km range and no laser designator. The microwave band of the electromagnetic spectrum covered frequencies from 7 to 11.7 gigahertz (GHz) and the Ka Band’s frequencies ranged from 26.5 to 40 gigahertz (GHz). Like Ku, Ka band is a further development of the NATO K band. The vehicle was cammed “Pruttle” but the press seemed to to have called it “Cheetah” which was the individual name of the vehicle that was shown in the news, but it was adopted later by the authorities. Company C was the first receiving the vehicle, discarded since 2006.
