Museum I (Python)
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, runs the aphorism. Something similar is true of painting.
The idea for this one came from a display-case in The Melbourne Museum. The actual case contains two aged, stuffed pythons and also the skeleton of a third. This was surplus to my requirements. Reality almost never makes for a well-composed picture.
From the real location, through the study and on to the final painting, you can see a process of refinement and distillation. Mostly this consists of a simplification of elements in order to make the most concise statement possible.
