Defiant
"Defiant" Branch-less trees standing defiantly amongst their felled neighbours at Devichoys Woods (maybe because they are too small to fell). Having left the house well before sunrise, it soon became apparent that I'd have to work hard for decent shots on this outing!... A quick weather check before I left revealed thick cloud - eliminating the chance of a colourful sunrise and as it turned out, I had very flat light to work with. Without the light, I hoped for some mist to provide mood and atmosphere. I knew the chance of it was slim after a relatively warm night, but I drove around the valleys in my area on the lookout anyway. Conceding to the fact that conditions were less than spectacular, I drove to Kennall Vale. Having been there a few times in better conditions, I was a little uninspired and didn't take a single shot! So I decided to head to Devichoys Woods - which happens to be close to home, but a place I'd not yet explored! While wandering the woods, I walked into a cleared area - with just a few small branch-less trees in the middle. I was immediately drawn to them. The felled trees provided ideal foreground interest and lead in lines. The flat, grey sky was actually an advantage for this shot - as the trees may otherwise be lost in front of textured clouds.
