5. Calling For Help
During her sinking, passengers went onto her lifeboat while crew were sending out rockets to possible ships who are seeing these signals, wireless Marconi distress calls; CQD and later SOS, in which one of the Marconi operators; Jack Philips used his best judgement on using both CQD and SOS due to that SOS was the new distress call at the time that other ships won't be able to recognise it, CQD is also used during these messages, but he won't be able to give out these calls much clearer without the help with another operator; Harold Bride and light signals as well, even to a mystery ship that has been pointed out. Speaking of Marconi messages, before the Titanic's collision with the iceberg, most of the iceberg warnings from ships like the Masaba, and the Californian which Philips had a rude rebuke with before the sinking had been ignored during Titanic's maiden voyage and there's an independent film called The Last Signals by Tom Lynskey that is about the Marconi operators on board the ship and the final messages during the tragedy, by the way; it’s a good film.
