The Little Gorge
The Little Gorge The Blackfellows Hand Track is a rough and ready, mud puddled byway that starts opposite the Bungleboorie Camp Ground,on the Glow Worm Tunnel Rd. - just north of Lithgow - before bumping and grinding its way along the edge of the Newnes State Forest until it reaches Wolgan Rd near the Wolgan Gap. There's a lot to delight along the Blackfellows Hand Track. The Lost City for example, which is a series of gullies riddled with the sandstone pagoda formations that the area is famous for. Squint your eyes a bit and let your imagination go and you will be instantly transported to Shangri-la among the gum trees. This little gorge can be found towards the end of the track, quite close to the Aboriginal art work in Black Fellows Hand Cave. It's a beautiful and magical place, a gap into the surrounding sandstone at the top of the escarpment that drops down into Wolgan Valley. You may first decide to stop in its cool green ferny shade for a cuppa, but you will leave sated deeply in your spirit, far more than tea and bikkies could ever do. For this little gully resonates with the ages. It's filled with the inaudible secrets and mysteries of nature whispered in still, breathless air. You are on sacred ground and you will be moved deeply.
