Hopkins Falls resides in a valley, set amongst dairy farmland near the city of Warrnambool in Victoria. At 90 metres it is one of the widest waterfalls in Victoria. You can view the rushing cascades from multiple lookouts above the falls, or descend to the river level to take a closer look from below.
With the site offer good facilities, and being only 15 minutes drive away from Warrnambool, it tends to become quite popular with visitors. The waterfall is most impressive after rain. The hot summer months can offer little or no water.
This image was captured at sunrise during an unusually hot September. We had spent a couple of weeks chasing up and down the coast working on landscape photography scenes, only to be met with one cloudless blue sky day after another. Right at the end of this frustrating experience, we finally managed to bag this absolutely amazing dawn light over the falls. A tremendously exciting morning.
