View Larger on Chockstone Photography Gooandra Homestead resides on the high plains at the northern end of Kosciuszko National Park about 15 Km from the district known as Kiandra. Essentially it’s about an hour’s walk from the Snowy Mountains Highway along an easy, though somewhat indistinct fire trail. The hut shown here was built in 1913 by Fred Lampe as a base for sheep grazing but the remains of the original (circa 1860) building on this site can still be found and represents the oldest structure in the park. These days the area is used by hikers, skiers and horse riders as a campground with the hut providing shelter, though it does not contain a fireplace and during some summers water cannot be found in the nearby creek.
