Australian Landscape Photography by Michael Boniwell. All images copyright. This is a tack sharp 96 megapixel image, suitable for enormous enlargements. View Larger on Chockstone Photography First lit in 1884 the 32 metre lighthouse is still in operation today and boasts a nice little café, and onsite accommodation that is available to visitors. There’s also a cliff-top walk that’s worth exploring, with interesting views down onto the crashing waves. Having attempted to photograph this scene several times, only to be thwarted by excessive wind or lack of exciting light I was happy to finally capture it at its best on a father-son trip. Our boy (six at the time) handled the big drive well and was great company as we strolled along the cliffs, remarking upon every little occurrence. Oddly shaped rocks, white foamy waves, birds out at sea, textures in cloud, it all got a careful analysis. Thus engrossed, and not really expecting anything to come of the trip photographically, I none-the-less set up for the sunset and waited. It was cold when twilight arrived and quite understandably he was keen to head off. As is often the case with landscape photography, just waiting that tiny bit longer can make all the difference. The light I’d been hoping for made an all too brief appearance and then, moments later, it faded out. Fortunately I’d been ready with the shutter. We drove on to camp in the Otways, doing the “tree-top walk” which I can also recommend as family friendly.
