"View Larger on Chockstone Photography":http://www.chockstonephotos.com/Australian-Print.asp?ID=941 The beautiful little seaside town of Bermagui (Est. 1830) in New South Wales resides almost as far south as you can go before ending up in Victoria. As well as being home to several delightful beaches it boasts a number of unusual sea stacks along its more rugged sections of coastline. These rocky outcrops often attract the attention of landscape photographers with the most obvious being Camel Rock. Considering it was created by underwater avalanches 450 million years ago it looks surprisingly attractive with sharp spires rising from the water when viewed from the right angle. With access via Camel Rock Surf Beach seemingly easy, you would think the images would practically compose themselves, but having visited this location dozens of times over decades, I can attest that the devil is in the details. The right combination of tide, weather and light often eludes photographers. During this trip we had spent a good week or more photographing the coastline with one cloudless day followed by another. Big empty blue skies tend to be the bane of a landscape photographer, so it was with welcome relief that this sunrise not only presented nice dark clouds, but also direct golden side-light on Camel Rock combined with splashes of warm colour reflected in the beautifully still foreground rock pool. A cracker of a scene made all the more amazing by the unique conditions.
